Nestle South Africa said the MAGGI 2min noodles in South Africa manufactured locally at MAGGI factory at Babelegi, Tshwane Region 2, are safe for consumption.

Nestle India took its immensely popular instant noodle brand Maggi of shelves across India amid a controversy over apparent high levels of lead found in the product.
In a statement, Nestle South Africa said “the quality and safety of our products are non-negotiable priorities for us”.
“Nestlé is a decentralised company and the alleged incident, which is still under investigation is only isolated to Nestlé India,” the statement said.
The company said the raw materials, purchased only from Nestlé approved suppliers, are tested extensively before use. The finished product is released only once they have confirmed compliance to a strict array of quality and food safety criteria.
Trace amounts of lead are present in the atmosphere and in the soil and Nestle said they regularly monitor all raw materials for lead, including testing by accredited laboratories. The authorities have set limits to ensure that any lead present in a finished product are within recommended food safety levels and safe to consume. These tests have consistently shown lead in Maggi noodles to be within permissible limits.
