The much loved Charity Showdown is back for yet another fun-filled tournament.
This time e.tv and OpenView HD have partnered with the City of Tshwane. The fundraising tournament is organized with the aim to honor the spirit of legendary former president Nelson Mandela who encouraged people to dedicate time to humanitarian causes. This year the action packed Charity Showdown will take place at the Lucas “Masterpieces” Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, Pretoria on 19 July.

At the end of the full time (90min), if the scores are still tied, the matches will be decided thr
ough penalty shootouts.
The first semi-final match kicks off at 9:00AM, the next game at 11:30AM midday and the final at 3:30PM. The day will also be packed with family inclusive activities happening simultaneously with the soccer games. These include a Family Fun Zone complete with a Food Market, a Kiddies area with child minders, jumping castles, face painters and clowns. There will also be a beer garden, VIP Hospitality as well as a Showdown Concert featuring some of South Africa’s top selling bands.
Families will also get a chance to win OpenView HD decoders throughout the day, as well as meet some of e.tv and stars and personalities.
Participating Teams:
The Charity Showdown is an annual one-day soccer event staged to raise funds for the Lunch Box Fund. Last year’s inaugural Charity Showdown was very successful and left fans yearning for more. The tournament was staged at Bidvest Stadium with top teams such Bloemfontein “Phunya Selesele” Celtics FC, Mpumalanga “Amazayoni” Aces FC, Amazulu “Usuthu” FC and the host Bidvest Wits FC competing for the Charity Showdown champion title. R250, 000 was raised for the Lunch Box Fund. The funds were used to provide a year’s worth of lunches to 416 pre-schoolers in Early Childhood Development Centres. These included Play-schools, Creches, Educare and Day Care Centres in Mamelodi, Ivory Park and Braamfisher.
