The City of Tswhane held its annual Readathon event in Suurman in the Hammanskraal area to celebrate the promotion of reading in the society.

This event forms part of the highlights in the calendar of the City of Tshwane Sports and Recreational Services Department. Media Relations Director at the City, Mr Lindela Mashigo said The City has identified a service delivery gap between the library users who are living with disability and the officials who are supposed to serve them. He said the event will be hosted under the theme “Celebrating the importance of South African Sign Language”.
“Sign language, like other official languages is important for the community to know, understand and be able to use on a daily basis for business interaction as well as social needs, “Mr Mashigo said.
The City will also conduct follow-up programmes with organisations involved with people living with disabilities or related challenges. The programmes envisaged including library orientation, current awareness services, and career guidance expos. Librarians also engaged people with disabilities as members of the user groups.
