The Tshwane University of Technology, (TUT) resumed activities at all campuses on today.

“In order to continue with this critical phase of the academic programme and ensure that all our students at all campuses are afforded the opportunity to successfully complete this year’s studies, we have to ensure that there are no further disruptions,” TUT said in a statement. All staff reported for duty and students resumed academic activities. To prevent any further disruption of activities and intimidation of both staff and students, the TUT management obtained an urgent High Court interdict against structures and individuals preventing respondents and their supporters from taking part or instigating disruptive or riotous behaviour that infringes the rights of any staff member, student or visitor to TUT’s premises.
The interdict also directs the SAPS and/or the Public Order Policing unit to take the necessary measures to ensure compliance. The interdict has been published on the TUT website. The TUT said in a statement that talks with the student representative council will be suspended until the situation has normalised.
With regards to the academic recovery plan, the re-examination date has changed, following consultations with the Executive Deans and the Student Representative Council.
Important dates are as follows:
• Predicate day: 13 November 2015
• Examinations: 18 November – 9 December 2015
• Publication of results: 18 December 2015
• Re-examinations: 11 – 22 January 2016
Security has been increased while the SAPS will also be on site to assist in ensuring the safety of staff, students and members of the public.
Last week protests erupted despite good progress that was made in talks between management and the students and an agreement that academic activities would resume.
