The Temba Annual Gala Dinner (TAGD) will be held at the African Country Experience in Midrand on 30 January 2016. The event is held for the the benefit of the Temba Sholarship Fund to provide bursaries to deserving Temba Students studying at tertiary institutions. The TAGD has been assisting the fund since 2005 with this event that celebrates exceptional individuals from Temba Township. This year, the black tie event promises to be an intimate, elegant and African event that is aimed at professionals and business people who regard Temba as their home and will be graced by the Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, Ms Naledi Pandor, as the guest speaker.

The highlight of the event this year will be the honouring of two individuals, Mr Vusi Madonsela, from Temba, who is one of the longest serving Directors – General in the South African government, having served in that capacity in the Department of Social Development for approximately 10 years and currently serving in a similar capacity just over three years in the Department of Cooperative Governance. He grew to be a figure of international repute in the field of social policy, covering a broad spectrum of social protection programmes, inclusive of the expansion of social security coverage for the poor in South Africa, under the political stewardship of former Minister of Social Development, Dr Zola Skweyiya 1999-2009.
The second person to be honoured is Ms Victoria Mogotsi, affectionately known as Mma-Mogotsi, the ex-principal of Kgetseyatsie Secondary School. Ms Mogotsi’s professionalism in handling and developing curious and volatile young minds during the turbulent early 1980’s is still remembered to this day. “By recognizing this original salt of the earth educator, a big thank you will be made to her for being a positive influence in many lives,” said event organiser, Mr Nene Mathebula.
The people who will be celebrated at the event are men and women who are recognized as having contributed positively to society and are held in high regard by Temba residents and their descendants residing somewhere else.
“By recognizing our own, we hope to inspire Temba youth to achieve greatness and get them to know positive role models who grew up in similar conditions..
“We trust that this event will serve as a catalyst to even greater things amongst us as we interact and rediscover our common history,” said Mr Mathebula.
