Following an announcement by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) that water levels in Gauteng have reached a point of no return and municipalities in the province have failed to show the ability to decrease water usage by 15%, the Executive Mayor of the City Tshwane Cllr Solly Msimanga, will announce the implementation of new water restrictions to enable the city to meet its target.
The announcement will outline how the City will implement the water restrictions and by-law enforcement on non-compliance with the restrictions.
This announcement follows a meeting on Tuesday held between Minister Nomvula Mokonyane, the Gauteng Provincial Government and the affected municipalities in Gauteng, particularly the Metropolitan Municipalities of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni where the Minister revealed that the Vaal river system was currently at risk of collapsing if water restrictions are not adhered to by users.
