Mayor not saying much on lack of service delivery

The city of Tshwane Executive Mayor, Mr Solly Msimanga, said he believe the City can bring about the conditions that will draw investment, stimulate economic activity and create job opportunities. “We believe that local government is ideally placed to drive economic development and support the ambitions of enterprising South Africans.” he said.

Speaking at a press conference held with MMC for Community Safety, Alderman Derrick Kissoonduth in Centurion today, the mayor said the informal traders are an important sector of the economy that needed to be encouraged instead of being discouraged.

He said there is much needed change in Tshwane and in this regard a summit for informal traders is planned to hear their grievances and to discuss how the City can assist this sector to flourish within the ambit of the law.

On the high rate of crime in the City, the Mayor said the high rate of drug trade need to be addressed. In this regard police have made 87 arrests from December to date.

He said the City has made funds available to partner with the University of Pretoria to fight the scourge of substance abuse.

Further to that, the TMPD conducts education and awareness sessions on substance abuse in schools throughout Tshwane to address the scourge of drugs and substance abuse.

The mayor did not speak much on lack of service delivery which is a serious concern for affected residents such as in Hammanskraal.
