On 24 February, Stinkwater Hammanskraal, Motshegofadiwa Primary School received their second handover of maths and science equipment to the value of R 94 500. This is part of the continued support from Capitec Bank, who has committed to donating R10 from every ticket sold at the 2016 The Color Run Pretoria event, which has to date raised R 177 500.

Sbusiso Kumalo the Head of Product Marketing at Capitec Bank says, “We are happy to be back at Motshegofadiwa, where we are able to continue supporting the people of this community. Our partnership with Adopt-a-School allows us to give back to beneficiary schools over the past three years in an area which is important for our country, namely maths and science education.” says Mr Kumalo.

The handover celebration was hosted by the principal, Lebogang Mathaba and saw a performance by the school choir as well as some science experiments to showcase what the pupils have learnt over the last year. Mathaba was joined by Alouis Matekenya, a representative from the Adopt-A-School Foundation.

“We are very grateful for the support of Capitec Bank. We have already noted a growing interest in maths and science, and our pupils now feel more motivated. We are a government supported school operating in an impoverished area so any assistance from corporates goes a long way in uplifting the future of our community,” says Ms Mathaba.

“Capitec Bank is proud to support this school not only because of our commitment to invest in the human capital of this country, but also because of the school’s dedicated teachers and management. They deserve all the help and support they can get, and we challenge other businesses in the area to support them as well” says Kumalo.

Stinkwater is a community characterized by extreme poverty and high levels of unemployment. The school, which accommodates 960 learners from grades R-7, is run by an excellent management team and governing body that is both effective and proactive.

Capitec Bank, headline sponsor of The Color Run, has partnered up with Adopt-A-School as part of their CSI programme. R10 of each ticket sold for The Color Run was donated by Capitec Bank to a selected school in need in each area where The Color Run was staged.

Not only did Capitec Bank and The Color Run bring joy to the participants in this fun run event but also new opportunities and hopes for better education to the learners at Motshegofadiwa Primary School.
