A 27 year old women, Ms Kgomotso Makena, appeared at Moretele Magistrate Court yesterday facing two counts of murdering her two kids with rat poison last Sunday 21 May 2017. She handed herself to the police on Saturday morning the past weekend.
Constable Herman Moremi of Temba Police said Ms Makena admitted to killing her two kids and also attempting to kill herself by eating the rat poison. The kids aged seven and two were found dead on the bed by their father. Ms Makena allegedly put the rat poison in the breakfast they had that morning.
She panicked when the poison did not affect her and she fled the scene. The father of the children later discovered the gruesome scene after Ms Makena’s work place phoned him to find out her whereabouts and he went to her house.
The case was postpone to the 6 June 2017 for bail application and she requested for legal aid.
