The story that Moretele Times first wrote about in May this year about an elderly woman, Nkgono Julia Mosai, from Chris Hani, Block G, who has been waiting for her house for more than 23 years is finally getting attention.
Moretele Times wrote about Nkgono Julia since May to assist in salvage her desperate situation and after that, Sisters With Dreams NPO, came on board to start a campaigning to mobilize resources to assist Nkgono Julia.
As a result of this collaboration, there has been overwhelming turn out of different people coming forward to assist. Today, the National Defense Force (SANDF) visited Nkgono to assess her living conditions and to look at how they can assist.
The SANDF Chaplain Rasebopela, who led the delegation from the SANDF said members of the SANDF were touched by the conditions of Ms Mosai when they read about her in Moretele Times and decided to come and see for themselves so that they can offer their assistance. She said they will now approach relevant stakeholders including business people for more donations so that they can build a proper house for Nkgono Julia.
All stakeholders driven by Sister With Dreams are working towards the deadline of July 18 to complete building a house for Ms Mosai and handing her keys to her new house.
Chaplain Rasebopela said the National Defence Force will treat this as a Mandela Day project to change someone’s life.
She said the target to start building the house is 19th of June 2017. “We hope all the arrangements to start building will be given the thumbs up by the SANDF now that they have seen that intervention is needed,” said Chaplain Rasebopela.
Chaplain Rasebopela encouraged members of the community to come help to build Nkgono a shelter and also clean the yard.
Ms Monni Selamolela, a community member, brought Nkgono freshly home baked scones and coffee for breakfast.
The Ward 75 Councillor, Sello Mphaga also attended the occasion.
Ms Kealeboga Nkuna Madumo, founder of Sisters With Dreams, thanked Moretele Times for the publicity and said there is still a problem of finding someone who can build the house because most of the role players are promising to donate the building material.
The Managing Member of Moretele Times, Ms Boipelo Lecogo, said Moretele Time’s plays its part in social responsibility projects.
“We believe there should be sustainability because Nkgono might not be the only one living in inhuman conditions.
“We should be able to address other social ills responsibly particularly indigent families,” said Ms Lecogo.
Community members who would like to offer their building skills are requested to contact: Frank Nkwanyane on 0782362607 or Ms Kealeboga Nkuna on nkunakealebogav@gmail.com/ 073 972 8663.
