Two people were killed this morning at about 6:30 after a bus crushed into a white Toyota Hilux that was turning into the Makapanstad Main Road in Hammanskraal.

Eyewitnesses said the bus crushed into the bakkie from the side and dragged it for a distance before it stopped.

One woman who was seating in the front and one male passenger who was at the back of the bakkie died on the scene.

Ms Katlego Boshielo, of Jubilee Hospital, said three passengers who are said to have been at the back of the bakkie were admitted and two were later released with one remaining in a stable condition.

“The driver of the bakkie was also admitted in a critical condition and later transferred to George Mukhari Hospital because of his critical condition.

“Another 30 from the bus were brought in for observation and discharged,” she said.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sarah Lesabane, said it is alleged that the driver of the bakkie was from Soshanguve and was collecting employees in Hammanskraal for construction work in Limpopo.

“It is also alleged that the driver was trying to join the Babelegi road to connect with R101 when the oncoming bus crushed into the bakkie,” she said.

An eyewitness said the bakkie came at high speed approaching the four-way stop without slowing down when the accident occurred.

“I was driving behind the bakkie when it drove past the first four-way stop at high speed.
“When it approached the second four-way stop, the driver tried to turn into the right to join the Babelegi Road and that is when the oncoming bus crushed into the bakkie on the left side and dragged it for several meters”.

Captain Lesabane said a case of culpable homicide was being investigated and the names of the deceased could not be disclosed yet until their next of kin identified them.
