Lack of water supply in Makapanstad has frustrated the community now for a couple of years leaving the community desperate and hopeless.
Residents in this part of the North West Province rely on the water tanks that are constantly failing to meet the community water needs.
Not once has the municipality communicated the reasons for the water crisis in the area further frustrating the community.
A number of residents have taken the initiative to dig boreholes in their backyards to try minimize their water problems but this has not solved their problems because the water is salty and undrinkable.
The water from the boreholes only serves purposes such as watering the garden and doing laundry and when they get drinkable water delivered by the municipality trucks, they have to save some for bathing.
“Not all of us can afford to dig boreholes and it leaves us with no option but to fetch water from the only working tap in the community with wheelbarrows.
“This is despite the fact that we have taps in our yards but they are not working, “said Mr Moleko, a local resident.
Another young resident, Lesego Pitse, said strangely water is coming out from a tap at his home but the water is not usable.
“Water at my house is coming out daily but the problem is that the water is salty and we can’t even use it to bath because it leaves the body covered in some white foam,” he said.
There has been several protests by the community to put pressure on the municipality about the shortage of water supply in the past years but it seems the community is always coming to a dead end because nothing happens.
The angered residents burned public tanks that were used before for public water purposes to indicate the seriousness of their frustrations and that too has not yielded any action from the municipality.
