Matla A Bana in partnership with ABSA Bank Trust handed over a Child Friendly Facility at Temba Police Station, Hammanskraal on Wednesday 29 August.
The Facility will address domestic violence, abused women and children. The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit will be in charge of the facility.
The facility consist of a playing area for abused kids, visual and recording station for interviews to tighten cases before going to court.
Speaking on behalf of Tshwane North Cluster, Major General Hilder Mohajane, said they were overwhelmed that out of all 16 clusters, Hammanskraal was chosen to establish the facility.
“In Tshwane region 2, there is a high rate of sexual offences, so this facility will be able to assist minors who are abused. They will be able to open up and talk with people they can trust base on the qualities of the facility,” Said Major General Hilder Mohajane.
“On a weekly basis we receive around four cases of sexual offences and we feel that this facility will partner with the community to educate them about the importance of respecting our girl child.” She said.
Ms Lizel Van Eeden, of Matla a Bana, thanked all stakeholders who made the day possible and said it is not easy for the volunteers as they live by the grace of donations.
“We do not have funding to reach all areas affected by domestic violence so we plead with all stakeholders to help this vulnerable women and children who are sometimes abused by people they trust,” Said Ms Van Eeden.
“I want to thank the South African Police Services for the operating space and ABSA bank Trust that sponsored a container values at more than R100 000,” She said.
The facility did not have to wait long to operate as when it had just been handed over, a case of sexual offence against a minor was just opened. The affected child was taken into the centre to help ease the shock and trauma she endure from the alleged sexually assaulted.
