The late Thabiso Mashaba, who allegedly drowned at Appies River in Hammanskraal November 2017 is believed to have been murdered.
Mr Mashaba was reported missing on the 13th of November 2017 and his body was found near Appies River on the 24th of November 2017. It is alleged that Mr Mashaba drowned when he went fishing with one of the tenants from his house.
Speaking at the funeral of Mr Mashaba on Saturday 20 January 2018, his brother, Mr Dan Thebe, told mourners that he believed his brother was murdered because some of his body parts were missing.
He said although his brother was mentally disturbed, he did not quarrel with anyone. It is for this reason that he would want justice to be done for his brother.
The family of the deceased further accused the police of covering up the main cause of their son’s death as they believed he did not drown based on the state of how his corpse was discovered.
The aggrieved family said when their son’s body was discovered near the river, his identity document was in his pocket but it did not show any sign that it once got wet.
The deceased mother, Ms Mashaba, said she is not happy with how the case is being handled by the police. She said the body of the deceased was found near the river by a passerby allegedly at the same place the police were searching for him for about two weeks.
Now her son’s identity document has vanished while it was in possession of the authorities.
“We had to acquire an affidavit to release his body for burial because they lost his ID.
Although the deceased was laid to rest yesterday, the family is still waiting in anticipation for the postmortem to know what was the cause of death of their beloved son.
Different businesses from Hammanskraal, sensational multi platinum selling artist, Mr Solly Moholo, Local singer Ms Sophy Matlala, human activist and a teacher, Mr Dan Makgopela, human activist Mr Martin Sebotsane and all stakeholders were thanked by the family for their contribution.
By the time the story went for printing, the police had not responded to questions sent to them and also about when the postmortem will be released.
