Community of Dertig celebrates Human Rights Day in style

The community of Dertig gathered at a local sports ground to commemorate Human Rights Day on 21 March 2018.

Event organiser, Mr Sello Dire, said the purpose of the event was to celebrate Human Rights Day and to teach young people the significance of the day.

The community came in numbers to show support to the different groups of troops taking part such as Leratong from Makapanstad, Russia from Dertig and Reatlegile from Temba.

Troops doing what they do best

Dancers from the troops who are mostly youth, said they love troops because it keeps them away from crime and substance abuse. “I’ve always loved dancing in troops, so I decided to join in 2016, said Basetsana Mootane one of the dancers of Russia.

The groups had three rounds each to demonstrate their dancing moves to one another. Each group had 20 minutes and had three rounds each. During those 20 minutes members of the community donated money to the groups to show their appreciation and love for the trooper culture.

At the end of the show, the groups shared the money donated equally between themselves for the good entertainment and show they presented.
