A case of inquest has been opened after a 14-year-old boy died from drowning at the dam in Maubane Village Hammanskraal yesterday at 14:00.
Constable Herman Moremi of Temba Police Corporate Communications said police divers managed to retrieve his body at around 19:00 with slight injuries on the upper body and further investigation will be instituted.
He said it is alleged that the deceased was swimming with other kids at the dam when the incident happened, and all of them run away, and one of the boys went to the deceased family to inform them.
On arrival at the dam they saw his shirt floating on the water and alerted the police who retrieved his body from the dam.
He said this is the third such incident that has been reported at the same dam in the past three years.
