Lieutenant Colonel Simon Mathaba was appointed as the Station Commander of Makapanstad on 1 June 2018. The call of his service is to safeguard the community of Makapanstad and its neighboring precincts such as Mathibestad, Swartdam, Lefatlheng and Dertig.
His commitment traces its tail back to 1990 when he was still a Constable. He went through the SAPS ranks and in 2006 he was appointed as the Visible Policing (VISPOL) Commander on the rank of Captain.
Lt Col Mathaba believes that for the men and women in blue to succeed in their endeavors to combat crime, it is imperative to partner with the community. He also considers policing to be characterized by selflessness, patriotism, dedication and community partnership.
Under his leadership, the Makapanstad SAPS in partnership with the Community Policing Forum (CPF), he has implemented crime prevention projects that play an instrumental role in a bid to eradicate criminal activities in their policing precincts.
The programs include the neighborhood watch which was launched in June 2017 to sensitize community members to refrain from buying stolen goods as it is also one of the primary contributing factors to crime committed in the vicinity of Makapanstad.
Lt Col Mathaba says house robberies, car high-jacking and house burglaries are prevalent in Makapanstad, however, the police are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the perpetrators are facing the full wrath of the law.
He strongly makes an appeal to the community to come on board and assist the police to fight crime by reporting any suspicious looking vehicles or individuals in the policing precinct of Makapanstad on the following number : 012 714 6035.
