An advertisement distributed through a Short Messaging System (SMS) and possibly other apps about a interview invitation for an Administration Clerk post in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality is a scam.
The message is circulated electronically and invites targeted individuals to an interview session allegedly to be held at one of the City’s office buildings. The message further states that the individuals are required to provide an identity document, certified copy of a matric certificate, other certificates and for the incumbent to be in formal wear on the date of the interview.
Executive Director of Strategic Communication, at City of Tshwane, Mr Selby Bokaba, said the invitation notice (message) is devoid of any truth, as the City only advertises vacant posts in newspapers and on the Job Forum page of its website: www.tshwane.gov.za<http://www.tshwane.gov.za>.
“We urge the public to ignore the message, as it is a scam. The City continues to be dismayed at the scammers who prey on the emotions of unsuspecting job seekers by manufacturing information about the existence of job vacancies. We suspect that the aim of the scammers is to con vulnerable people who are desperate for jobs.
“We wish to warn those who are peddling such false information that they will be arrested, charged and prosecuted, as their actions border on criminality. Further, we advise the public to contact the Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department on 082 891 8625 whenever they come across “job adverts’’ that are issued outside the norms and procedures of the City’s processes,” Mr Bokaba said.
Hereunder is the false invitation to an interview which should be ignored:
