Temba police together with members of Gauteng Gambling Board arrested eight foreign national around Temba who were found with gambling machines in their spaza shops.
During the operation this morning, police searched spaza shops around Temba, Chris Hanni and Majaneng which were found using gambling machines illegally with no licenses that permit them to use the machines. The owners of the spaza shops, eight of which are foreign nationals were arrested.
Captain Sarah Lesabane of Temba SAPS Corporate Communication, said the machines were mostly used by kids who put 50 cent in the slot and spin. Ten machines were seized and the suspects were given a fine and released.
“They were charged with Unlawful operating gambling machines in the shop. The operation will continue through the festive seasons and those who are still having the machines are warned very serious, we are on your tail,” said Captain Lesabane.
