Rina Ferreira has initiated a campaign called Imisebeyelanga with the aim to fight Domestic Violence and also to promote the rights of the abused victims in the Hammanskraal community.
Imisebeyelanga is a Non-profit organization which started in 2013 and has been working towards preventing and eliminating violence against abuse victims.
The NGO facilitates its services at all police station in the Hammanskraal area and uses education, awareness, lobbying, research and community action.
The founder of the organization, Ms Ferreira, said the reason they started the organisation is to empower victims to speak out whenever they are abused or having social challenges such as child abuse, rape, trauma, bullying, substance abuse, and other challenges that people are afraid to speak about.
Mr Johannes Mohale, who works as a Victim Supporter, said ” we sometimes do awareness workshops in the communities to give people information and teach them about the impact of keeping quite when they are abused and also to refer them into our offices if ever they need our services.
“We are also in partnership with other stakeholders such as SAPS, COLISA who help by taking over when we are unable to help the victims in tough situations,” said Mr Mohale.
