The roof at the school has been damaged since last year and there has not been any attempt to fix it

The Democratic Alliance (DA) will be tabling questions to the Gauteng MEC for Education, Mr Panyaza Lesufi, in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature to ascertain the reasons why the infrastructure at Sikhululekile Secondary School in Unit D Temba is in a state of disrepair.

This is after the Democratic Alliance Gauteng Member of the Provincial Legislature and Spokesperson on Education, Nkele Molapo, conducted an oversight inspection to assess the state of the school as well as the progress in terms of learning and teaching.

Ms Molapo said the school has been earmarked by the department to be converted into a school of specialization in Maths and Science and there is a dire need for a fully functional science laboratory, however, the school is not maintained.

“We would like to know from the MEC when the school maintenance will resume including the fixing of the roof of the science laboratory and the classroom.

“We were shocked to discover that there is no infrastructure maintenance at the school and that the roof of the laboratory and one classroom collapsed last year already and the Gauteng Department of Education has done nothing to date to repair the roof,” said Ms Molapo.

The Department of Education had not responded to the email sent to the spokesperson at the time of publishing.
