Tshepo Sello Mokwena aged 37 was sentenced to life imprisonment on four counts of rape this morning at Moretele Magistrate Court after being found guilty on Wednesday.
Constable Herman Moremi of Corporate Communications SAPS TEMBA said the convicted suspect was facing eight counts of rape and three charges were withdrawn by the victims while one of the victims passed on and her case was also withdrawn.
The suspect committed the crimes from 2006 till 2014 when he attacked the victim next to the bridge at Babelegi. The victims were taking shot cuts walking alone when the suspect threatened them with a knife, assaulted them and raped them.
He was sentenced to four life imprisonment to run concurrently.
The station commander of Temba SAPS, Brigadier Martha Mokobori, applauded the investigating officer for a job well done.
The Brigadier was instrumental in arresting the suspect and linking him with all cases.
“Victims of rape should report cases and not to withdraw such cases, and this will assist the police to convict the perpetrators,” she said.
