The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, said it is disappointed to learn that the Gauteng Department of Education has no immediate plans to upgrade the Selang Primary School in Temba, Hammanskraal.

DA Member of the Provincial Legislature, Ms Nkele Molapo, said “This was revealed to me by the Gauteng MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi in a written reply to my questions tabled in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature”.

She said according to MEC Lesufi, there is no immediate plan to rehabilitate the existing infrastructure at the Selang Primary School.

“This is worrying as this school is in a state of disrepair, the school is old and dilapidated, the building structure has cracks, the ceiling is broken, and the roof is leaking.

“The water taps are broken and there are water leakages, the state of this school is not conducive for learning and teaching.

“We call on MEC Lesufi to send an inspector to assess the state of this school in order to identify infrastructure defects that require urgent intervention”.

She said the DA will continue to put pressure on MEC Lesufi to ensure that this school is considered for immediate upgrade.

An email sent to the Gauteng Department of Education for an answer was not responded to.
