Shoppers at Jubilee Mall in Hammanskraal said the lockdown has affected their shopping negatively with long queues and non-essential stores closed – with a limited number of people allowed to enter the essential stores.

A regular banker at Jubilee mall, Mr Siyabonga Masuku said he has been standing at the FNB queue for a long time to deposit money and it did not look like he will succeed.

“I can not deny that the lockdown is necessary, but now it is becoming too much to bear, we can’t even complete a simple bank transaction because it gets crowded and the queues get longer,” said Mr Masuku.

A pregnant woman, Ms Prudence Sibanyoni, who was standing at the queue to get into Spar, said she cannot bear the long queue and, “the worst part is that they do not provide enough chairs, this lockdown has really caused a mess for shopping.’’ Ms Sibanyoni said.

Mr Gladwin Masumbuka, a pensioner, said he is too old to be standing for too long and suggested that old shoppers should be prioritized as they cannot stand for too long on queues.

A Hairdresser, Mr Mpho Ramela, said he wishes the mall can return to normal sooner because the lockdown has limited his choice.

“‘I like exploring various shops, I wish the virus can be stable so that the mall can return to its normal trading,” Mr Ramela said.
