During the Lockdown, the city has to remove homeless people off the streets and place them in proper shelters.
During this difficult time of the coronavirus pandemic lockdown, the city has released a communique asking for donations, to help maintain the homeless and vulnerable people, to curb the spread of COVID19.
Emails to enquire about how to donate can be sent to Mr Rudi Brenner on rudib@tshwane.gov.za. Residents can indicate on the email what they want to donate or what their intentions are.
Mr Jeffrey Mdhuli, Chief assistant of Disaster risk management said, the City of Tshwane is dealing with a large number of homeless people in different shelters that must be given food every day.
‘‘All Non-Governmental Organization are therefore donating services and resources to assist in dealing with the current situation. Apart from donating money, people can mention what type of resources are available at their NGO and the City will then communicate the NGOs based on the donation they want to offer,’’ Mr Mdhuli said.
A Hammanskraal resident who requested to be anonymous said, ‘‘the city has a lot to deal with and we understand why they are asking for assistance, they just cannot deal with all the homeless people on their own, the public has to participate also.’’
