Makapanstad Police said the police will leave no stone unturned to ensure that those perpetrating hideous crimes against children are brought to the book

A 21-year-old female is expected to appear before the Moretele Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 26 May 2020, on charges of attempted murder and concealment of birth after she allegedly threw her baby in a pit toilet. The court appearance stems from her apprehension at Jubilee Hospital, where the baby was admitted for medical treatment.

Ms Maria Nkabinde of SAPS Brits Cluster Communication said It is alleged that on Friday, 22 May 2020, neighbors heard the sound of a baby crying, coming from a pit toilet in Matebeleng section at Makapanstad. Furthermore, emergency services and police were contacted and the baby was rescued by the fire department who demolished the toilet in an effort to reach the baby. She was taken to the local clinic, before being transferred to the hospital. Moreover, the mother was allegedly seen by witnesses, picking up stones and carrying it towards the toilet.

Ms Nkabinde said the Cluster Commander of Brits, Major General Modisagaarekwe Mosimanegape, condemned the incident with the strongest possible terms.

“The Major General emphasized that the police will leave no stone unturned to ensure that those perpetrating hideous crimes against children are brought to the book,” she said.
