Dear Mr Mabunda
Hope the message finds you well and safe.
Could we kindly address the issue of internal communications in relation to how we respond to the internal union structures?
We have noted the response of the DG to the Nehawu letter sent out yesterday. Upon reviewing the situation, we identified that we could have handled the matter differently.
The statement was well crafted and we would have agreed with it were it to pass through the director internal and external communications for comment and input.
However, we would have strategized differently to ensure that staff members receive the same message in a different format and platform.
This would be to avoid a situation where DPSA staff members first hear about the position of the DPSA and the DG from Nehawu, or get clarified through the Nehawu channels.
Granted that the DG had to respond to the Nehawu letter, however, as internal communications, we should be allowed to strategize on how to manage the communication. This would include ensuring that staff members receive the same clarity immediately after Nehawu has confirmed receipt of the DG’s response.
We hope that in future, we would be allowed the space to strategize on similar matters so that staff members do not first hear from Nehawu about departmental positions.
Could we therefore request to receive the same response in word so that we can re-write for the DG’s approval to be sent out to Team DPSA so that the clarity is received by all officially.
