Mr Mduduzi Matsane (34) from Hammanskraal is operating a ceramic business based at Babelegi Industria.

His company, Canosa Matsane Ceramic Hub, was established in 2013 and employs 30 community members to date. He opened his company after learning the trade as a volunteer at an old age home. He was taught ceramics by his father who is a potter and succeeded in opening a company that manufactures ceramic tableware and sells it to local residents and businesses.

Mr Matsane said that he empowers the local community members by doing skills training and also creates job opportunities for them.

He said he sees his company as a global player in the ceramic world, “though it’s a bit challenging because lack of skilled workers and that is why we have a skills transfer program to train new employees.

“I am inspired by the richness of the African continent and its history,” he said.
