Two suspects appear in court for school chairs theft in Makapanstad

Meshack Maluleka(37) and Michael Motshwane(27) appeared before Moretele Magistrates’ court in Temba for possession of suspected stolen properties and business burglary on Thursday,18 February 2021. The accused were released on bail and will appear again before the same court on Thursday, 15  April 2021.

Maria Nkabinde of the Office of the SAPS District Commissioner in Bojanala Platinum Sub District 1, North West Province, said the duo’s court appearance emanate from their apprehension on Tuesday, 16 February 2021, at about 15:00 in Moeka village, Makapanstad.

“That was after the police made a follow-up subsequent to an incident whereby more than 100 chairs were reported stolen at a local school in Swartdam village, Makapanstad.

“Upon conducting a search at a local shebeen, the police found chairs and apprehended the shebeen owner,” she said.

Ms Nkabinde said a preliminary investigation into the matter revealed that the chairs were stolen at the school in  November 2020. Consequently, the second suspect was arrested.

The District Commissioner of Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 1, Major General Modisagaarekwe Mosimanegape, applauded the police for discovering the chairs and apprehending the suspects.

He also urged the public to work together with the police in the fight against the vandalism of schools, a challenge that has become rampant during the lockdown due to lengthy school holidays.
