Hammanskraal Tennis Club (HTC) boys represented the team at BNP Rising Star Tournament that was held at Groenkloof from the 7th to 9th May 2021. Chairperson of Hammanskraal Tennis Club, Mr Simon Tlhatlha, said the event was the Primary and High school regional playoffs.
Hammanskraal Tennis Club (HTC) was represented by 34 players from Primary School to High School, players were participating in teams of 4 players.
The HTC high school boys team (Team #retshelathupa) Mpho Phungwayo, Eric Matjiane, Tshepang Maisela and Mpho Jantjies finished position 2 on the draw of 32 school teams beating the likes of Affies Hoèrskool, Cornwall High, to reach the finals of the BNP Paribas schools event. They lost in the finals on a close encounter 2-1 against Hoèrskool Waterkloof.
The other teams also came to the party in position 3 of the Boys High School Team Double Trouble, where Tshepang Tlhatlha was part off, finished position 3 after losing in the semi-finals against their team members #retshelathupa.
Double Bounce finished position 6 out of 32 teams, and the Primary School girls also reached semi finals and lost to Monument Park, they went on and win the playoff against Tygerpoort and finished position 4.
“We are very proud of our players, the level of professionalism they displayed at this even was impressive. The tournament was tough but they kept their cool, encouraging each other and cheering for one another which helped them to pull through. After this weekend’s performance, we hope to have more teams qualifying for the Provincial trials next month,” he said.
Mr, Tlhatlha said HTC is proud of each and every player at their club, a huge thank you goes to the coaches that work tirelessly with these kids six days a week. Thanks to the parents for supporting them throughout their journey.”
