Notorious suspects arrested after shootout withe police in Temba

Four suspects were arrested and three firearms were confiscated following a shootout between the police and suspects.

Temba Police received information about a vehicle that committed business robberies at Hans Kekana View in Temba and Trust farm at Stinkwater at around 09:00 and 10:50 yesterday 15 October 2021.

Sergeant Herman Moremi of Temba SAPS Corporate Communication said a patrol vehicle came across the reported Nissan NP 300 at Stinkwater and they immediately called for backup.

“One of the suspects’ vehicles collided with a wall and chasing ensued between the police and the other suspects’ vehicle. When they arrived at Marikana near Eersterus, the shooting started between the suspects and the police.

“Two suspects were shot and injured, one was shot on the leg and the other one on the upper body. The suspects threw their firearms on top of the roof of a tin shack and surrender.

“One firearm was recovered inside the vehicle which collided with the wall and two firearms on the roof. Four suspects were arrested and two of them were escorted to the hospital under police guard. The suspect’s firearms were found with serial numbers filed off and the police are investigating cases of business robbery, attempted murder, and possessions of unlicensed firearms,” Sergeant Moremi said.

The station Commander of Temba SAPS, Brigadier Johannes Tau, applauded members who went beyond their call of duty for reporting for work at 06:00 in the morning till 22:00 in the night to make sure that all evidence is secured and the suspects are safeguarded in the hospital.

He praised the members of the force for the dedication of responded for a lookout of the suspicious vehicle and managing to locate it and recovering the firearms and arresting four of the suspects.

Brigadier Tau said incidents of business robberies will be reduced in the area as it is believed the arrested suspects are the ones who were involved in many robberies around Temba and surroundings areas.

The suspects will appear in court in due cause facing charges of business robberies, attempted murder, and possession of unlicensed firearms.
