The Congress of the People (COPE) President, Mr Mosioua Lekota, has taken his party’s election campaign to Hammanskraal, hanging his campaign on the water crisis in Hammanskraal.

Mr Lekota last Sunday conducted a door-to-door in Hammanskrall asking residents about service delivery challenges. Residents expressed a desire for improvements, especially paved roads. He urged Hammanskraal residents to vote for COPE in the upcoming elections if they want to see better living conditions.

He said the African National Congress (ANC) is to blame for the resident’s condition.

“Councillors here are historically members of the ANC since the dawn of democracy, but they have done nothing for the people of Hammanskraal. It is for this reason that we urge you to vote for COPE so that we can give you Dr Murinwa Makwarela as the mayor of Tshwane,” he said.

Dr Makwerela who accompanied the COPE President on the campaign said part of the solution COPE will bring in addressing the water crisis is to improve the capacity of the current water infrastructure which is under pressure due to the increase of informal settlements in Tshwane.

“The Freedom Charter promised that people will receive decent homes and yet many people of Refiloe still live in shacks with no tarred roads and many are without jobs, if people vote for COPE, the party will improve the current living conditions,” Dr Makwarela said.
