A 58-year-old man was arrested on Saturday 12 February 2022 morning around 04:00 near Stinkwater along Soutpan road in possession of suspected stolen goats.

Sergeant Herman Moremi of Corporate Communications SAPS Temba said the police came across a white VW Jetta looking suspicious while traveling towards Soupan road to Mmotla village and when they stopped the vehicle three men who were inside the vehicle runaway and they managed to arrest one man.

They started searching the car and they found four goats in the boot of the vehicle and the man could not account for the goats and was arrested and detained.

The station commander of Temba SAPS Brigadier Johannes Tau applauded members of SAPS who acted immediately after realizing that suspects are running away from the vehicle, and arrested one of them.

“This shows that the suspects are now using private vehicles to transport livestock and bakkies as usual. The police did a good job to stop a vehicle traveling during that time of the night.

“We have many cases of stock theft in our area and will do our best to reduce the number of cases reported to us by working hand in hand with the community and owners of livestock,”” said Brigadier Tau.

The suspect will appear in the Moretele magistrate court facing charges of possession of suspected stolen livestock in due cause. The goats will be handed to the stock theft unit and the vehicle will be impounded as it was involved in the commission of a crime.
