Girl Guides South Africa held a fun event for young children in Hammancral Jubilee Mall to commemorate Youth Day on 16 June 2022 with the theme Dedication, Personal Improvement, and Skill Acquisition.
The fun day was marked by adventure and other thrilling activities.
Martina Mabusela of Girl Guides said the goal of the event was to attract adult guide leaders and female guide leaders to be involved in the program that aims to take kids off the streets and reducing their reliance on drugs.
The oath that is taken by the youth when joining the Girl Guide is, “I vow to do my best, to discharge my duty to God and my country, to aid others, and to follow the guide law,” and it is expected to motivate the youth in upholding the principles of the Girl Guides.
“The Girl’Guides motivates the youth through fun and giving them guidance to grow up to be better people.
“We teach them to be smart and to make their aspirations a reality while they are still young so that they can grow to be grounded adults,” she said.
Ms Nkeli Mangezi, the girl’s adult leader said it was a great day for all of the youth and it was much fun for the participants.
“They all participated in their chores and were aware of the rules, which indicates that our intentions of growing them are progressing.
“What I wish is for Girl Guides South Africa to expand to every township in South Africa and for such events to be held with young people because it is extremely useful and good to both young children and adults.
“We appreciate the support and hope that what we are doing will be recognized by everyone,” she said.
Otshepeng Mazibuko, a Project Manager said Girl Guides is a big organization that operates internationally.
“On Youth Day Girl Guides Project provided different awareness programs that will help the youth of Hammanskraal with life skills that will help them get away from substance abuse and empower them to deal with the challenges of GBV,” she said.
