A 30-year-old woman was sentenced to four months imprisonment or a R2000 fine by Moretele magistrate court for reporting a false case against his boyfriend.
On 10 February 2022 Ms Kedibone Letwaba came to the police station to report a case of rape saying she was on the street when his neighbour grabbed her and put her on his shoulder and took her to his place where he raped her, and on the 11 February 2022 at around 09:00, she came back to withdraw the case saying the neighbour is his boyfriend and she was angry because he is dating another girl.
The investigating officer obtained her withdrawal statement and immediately arrested her for perjury and defeating the ends of justice. She was found guilty and sentenced to four months imprisonment or an R2000 fine, suspended for five years and declared unfit to possess a firearm because of her poor judgement.
Brigadier Johannes Tau said most community members opened false cases knowing that the crime is not committed. “This will be a lesson to those who intend to report false cases. He applauded the investigating officer for the immediate arrest and convicted the suspect.
