Suspect sentenced to 15 years for house robbery and rape

A 34-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by Moretele magistrate court on 20 September 2022 after being found guilty on charges of house robbery and rape which occurred on 13 December 2013.

Sergeant Herman Moremi of Corporate Communication SAPS Temba said the victim aged 47 was at home at Suurman village north of Tshwane sitting on the veranda at around 21:30 when an unknown man came holding a knife and threatened her with it. He instructed her to get inside the house and locked the door and demanded money and a cell phone, and after that, he took her to the bedroom where he raped her.

“After the ordeal, the victim managed to run to the neighbours for help. The case was reported and it was assigned to Sergeant Rachel Moeketsi, Temba investigating officer from the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit (FCS) who managed to trace the suspect through DNA which was linked to the cases reported at Mamelodi and Villieria, by that time the suspect was at Khosi Mampuru prison.

“The warrant of arrest was issued and the suspect was arrested on 12 May 2022 at Kgosi Mampuru correctional facilities. The suspect Mr Paulos Molamodi was found guilty on 20 September 2022 by Moretele magistrate court on charges of house robbery and rape and was sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment,” Sargeant Moremi said.

The station Commander Brigadier Johannes Tau welcomed the conviction and applauded the member for not giving up on the case and going all out to make sure that justice is served.
