A 34-year-old man was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition recently. This is after the members of crime prevention SAPS Temba swiftly reacted to the information about a suspect who is at Block Mokone and Nkandla bushes in Stinkwater north of Tshwane, carrying a bag containing a firearm and ammunition.

Sergeant Herman Moremi of Corporate Communication SAPS Temba said the policy spotted a suspect matching the description that was given and tactically approach him and instructed him to lie on the ground. When they searched a bag they found a revolver with the serial number filed off, 93 rifle ammunition and one rifle magazine and 33 revolver ammunition.

The station Commander Brigadier Johannes Tau welcomed the arrest of the suspect and applauded members for recovering a firearm and ammunition in a space of a week after recovering AK 47 rifle in the same area and said there is a possibility that the two incidents can be linked, but that will be determined by the investigation. He said “our community members should be vigilant out there, and continue to give information to the police about any criminal activities taking place in the area.”

The suspect will appear in court facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and the firearm will be taken for ballistic to determine if it was involved in the commission of a crime.
