The station commander of Temba SAPS Brigadier Johannes Tau applauded members of crime prevention who continued to recover unlicensed firearms at Stinkwater, since the beginning of last month AK 47 and Revolver and ammunition were recovered.

Yesterday at around 15:15 members recovered another unlicensed firearm at Stinkwater.

Sergeant Herman Moremi of Corporate Communications Temba SAPS said members were conducting a stop and search when they came across two vehicles, a Ford Fiesta and Toyota double cap where they stopped them and conducted a search.

“They found a man and a woman inside a  Ford Fiesta where they recovered a silver handgun under a seat where the man was seated. Both of them didn’t have a license for that firearm and said it belongs to the woman’s brother.

“A 36-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were arrested immediately for possession of an unlicensed firearm and will appear in the Moretele magistrate court in due cause. The gun will be taken to ballistic to determine if it was used in the commission of a crime,” he said.

Brigadier Tau said it shows that there is a lot of unlicensed firearm in our society, especially in Stinkwater, and said his team is doing a good job by removing those firearms from the culprits and making sure that they are detained.

“I am very proud to have such dedicated members in our station who worked tirelessly to protect our society, and we will keep patrolling and doing stop and searches till we reduce levels of crime in our area,” said Brigadier Tau.
