Police divers yesterday managed to find the child who was allegedly reported drowned on Monday 14 November 2022 at around 15:00 in the Tshwane Appies river.

Sergeant Herman Moremi of Corporate Communications SAPS Temba said it was reported that almost five kids around the age of eleven and twelve from Marokolong village were swimming when one of them was swept away by water, and the remaining four ran back to the village to call for help. Police divers started a search from Monday till yesterday where they managed to retrieve the body of an eleven-year-old boy from the water who was certified dead on the scene.

The station commander Brigadier Johannes Tau was saddened by the incident and urged parents to take charge and talk with their kids to stop playing near rivers and dams. He said parents should monitor the movements of their kids and know their whereabouts at all times.

“Rivers and dams are very dangerous and people should not take it for granted, even the older people can easily be swept by the water,” he said,

He applauded the rescue teams from Roodeplat K9 academy, West rand, Johannesburg and Soshanguve K9 for not giving up the search in difficult strong water after heavy rains.
