Itekeng Bagodi Social Club: Preserving the Rich History of Temba

The Temba Education Investment Fund and the Temba Heritage Project are proud to announce the upcoming Temba Heritage and Community Prestige Awards, a prestigious event that will celebrate the culture, heritage, and memory of the Temba community. The awards aim to honour individuals, families, and organizations that have made significant contributions to the growth and prosperity of Temba over the past eighty years, from 1942 to 2022.

The inaugural Temba Heritage and Community Prestige Awards will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Family Worship Church in Temba. The event will be divided into two parts, with the first session scheduled from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and the second from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The Awards will be hosted by esteemed personalities Bongani Madondo and Matsheko Mosito.

The Awards Committee, responsible for the adjudication process, will carefully evaluate and recommend individuals, families, and organizations for recognition across various categories. These categories include Arts and Culture, Sports and Recreation, Religion and Spirituality, Education and Culture, Community Development, Business (Manufacturing), Business (Retail), Politics and Governance, Judiciary and Law Enforcement, and Health and Wellness. There will also be a special meritorious category to honour exceptional contributions.

Temba holds a rich history, with the Temba Bantu Township formally established in 1942. Over the years, the community has grown, welcoming individuals and groups who have contributed to its development. The Temba Heritage and Community Prestige Awards serve as an opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate those who have played a vital role in shaping Temba’s present prestigious status, locally, nationally, and even internationally.

The nomination process for the awards is open to the public, inviting members of the Temba/Hammanskraal community, as well as individuals from across the nation and around the world, to put forward deserving candidates. To be eligible for consideration, nominees must demonstrate a selfless commitment to the welfare of others, consistent contributions to the well-being of the community, active involvement in community service, fostering a culture of belonging, and a significant positive impact on people’s lives.

The Awards Committee encourages the community to participate actively by submitting nominations for deserving candidates. The nomination form requires detailed information about the nominee’s biographical details, the nominator’s and seconder’s information, the chosen awards category, and a biographic summary highlighting the exceptional contributions made to the Temba community, the national community, and the international community.

The Temba Heritage and Community Prestige Awards will acknowledge the outstanding achievements of individuals and organizations and feature esteemed speakers who will share their insights. Professor Eugene Skeef, from the Centre for Educational Rights and Transformation at the University of Johannesburg, will deliver a keynote speech on celebrating community culture, heritage, and memory.

The Temba Heritage and Community Prestige Awards 2024 is a momentous occasion, celebrating the community’s legacy and inspiring hope and prosperity for the future. It is an opportunity to recognize the remarkable individuals, families, and organizations that have shaped Temba’s vibrant and thriving community over the years.
