NOTIFICATION OF SECTION 24G APPLICATION (RECTIFICATION OF UNLAWFUL COMMENCEMENT OF LISTED ACTIVITIES) – PUMBA LODGE, DINOKENG

Notice is hereby given, in terms of the Section 24G of the National Environmental Management Act (Act 107 of 1998) [NEMA], as amended, read with the Section 24G Fine Regulations, 2017 as amended, that Pumba Lodge located in Dinokeng Game Reserve is submitting an application for the unlawful commencement of a listed activity, GN R985 as amended (Listing Notice 3). Pumba Lodge is located on portion 53, and the remainder of Farm 124, Welgevonden, in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, Gauteng.

Applicant: Azticol (Pty) Ltd, owner of Pumba Lodge

Location of the activities: Pumba Lodge in Dinokeng Game Reserve, City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, Gauteng.

Independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner: EScience Associates (Pty) Ltd.

Competent Authority (EA): Gauteng Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment (GDARD).

Applicable NEMA Listed Activities:

The clearing of indigenous vegetation between 2015 and 2022 for the construction of a vegetable and fruit garden and the clearing of indigenous vegetation in 2021 for the construction of a sports court was undertaken without environmental authorisation. The activities undertaken trigger the following listed activity:

  • Listing Notice 3, Activity 12: The clearance of an area of 300 square meters of indigenous vegetation except where such clearance of indigenous vegetation is required for maintenance purposes undertaken in accordance with a maintenance management plan.

The undertaking of a listed activity requires an Environmental Authorisation as per the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998) [as amended] and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations (2014) [GN R982 of 4 December 2014 as amended]

The Section 24G application process requires an Environmental Impact Assessment process to be undertaken including public participation.

All Interested and Affected Parties (IAPs) are hereby notified of the proposed application and are herewith invited to register as IAPs to participate in the application process. This will include the opportunity to have access to relevant reports for your review and comment.
