The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released the payment schedule for social grants for December 2024, outlining important dates for beneficiaries.
Payments for Older Persons Grants will commence on December 3, 2024. Beneficiaries of the Old Age Grant who receive Child Support Grants and Foster Care Grants will access these linked grants on the same day. Following this, payments for individuals with disabilities will be made on December 4, 2024, including all grants associated with these accounts. All other social grants will be disbursed starting December 5, 2024.
Acting Spokesperson for SASSA-Gauteng, Ms. Sesame Kgabi, emphasized the importance of financial independence for beneficiaries. She encouraged them to consider opening personal bank accounts with financial institutions of their choice. This move is intended to help beneficiaries take ownership of their funds and facilitate easier access to their payments.
Ms. Kgabi also reminded beneficiaries that SASSA/SAPO cards can still be utilized as debit cards at various ATMs and retail counters, including major chains such as SPAR, Checkers, Shoprite, Boxer, Pick n Pay, and Cambridge.
In light of security concerns, SASSA urges all social grant recipients to keep their cards and PINs secure and to never share their PINs with anyone to prevent unauthorized access to their funds.
