Mahikeng – ANC Chief Whip Motlalepula Rosho has praised Finance MEC Kenetswe Mosenogi’s R55.740 billion budget, emphasizing its focus on rural development and youth empowerment.
Rosho believes the budget will address infrastructure challenges and create essential job opportunities, particularly for marginalized communities, women, and youth. She noted the allocation of R258.723 million for rural roads and R127.225 million for the Comprehensive Agricultural Support Programme, which targets black subsistence and distressed farmers.
The budget also prioritizes job creation, with resources allocated to tackle youth unemployment. Rosho highlighted R81.492 million for the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative, benefiting over 3,000 young people and aiming to create 24,000 job opportunities.
Key investments in small businesses, agriculture, and public infrastructure, including the revamp of Pilanesberg and GD Montshioa Airports, are designed to foster long-term economic growth.
Rosho pointed out that the budget aligns with the Freedom Charter and includes R1.848 billion for housing improvements, addressing the backlog faced by historically marginalized communities. She welcomed measures to tighten Supply Chain Management to curb corruption in tender awards.
“The budget reflects a commitment to improving lives and advancing the interests of the working class,” she asserted, noting that education and healthcare remain central to government spending. Upcoming budget debates will further address issues like violent crime and service delivery challenges for indigent households.
