In a show of unity and commitment to academic integrity, 26 schools in the Gauteng region participated in a Pledge Day event. The event, organised by the Gauteng Department of Education, aimed to encourage grade 12 learners to take a stand against cheating and promote a culture of honesty and hard work.
Muruti Philip Mmataladi of Pastors United Movement of South Africa (PUMSA) said the Pledge Day services were held on October 24, 2025, and attended by various stakeholders, including the South African Police Service (SAPS), community organisations, and parent-teacher associations.
The event was followed by a feedback meeting on October 29, 2025, where representatives from participating schools and organisations shared their experiences and insights.
The partnership between schools, SAPS, and local organisations such as Sanca, Sanco, Angels of Glory, Modimo o Matla, SGBs, Parents, district officials, Women’s World Day of Prayer, Sadtu, Naptosa, and Konka demonstrates a collective effort to promote positive values and behaviours among young people.
“The Pledge Day event reminds us of the importance of academic integrity and the role that schools, communities, and individuals can play in promoting a culture of honesty and fairness.
“By working together, South African schools can foster a generation of responsible and ethical leaders who value hard work and integrity, “Moruti Mmatladi said.
