The North West Provincial Legislature has conducted an oversight visit to Moretele Local Municipality, where members inspected the Dikebu Village housing project.

According to the Moretele Local Municipality Communications Manager, Mr Abel Mothupi Malebye, the Department has completed the final 20 housing units, bringing the total number of completed houses to the approved 300 units.

The Department’s Regional Director for Bojanala, Mr Muzi Mashabane, briefed the Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on the progress of the project during the visit.

Mr Mashabane said the project had faced implementation challenges, including poor performance by the initial developer, which slowed progress at the start.

“The project initially encountered challenges due to the developer’s poor performance, which resulted in a difficult start. However, the situation improved significantly following the appointment of a highly skilled project manager to oversee the implementation of the project,” he said.

During the oversight visit, beneficiary Mr Martin Kotu welcomed the completion of his house and said he was looking forward to occupying it.

“I am grateful that the Department completed my house on time, and I look forward to moving into my new home soon,” he said.

The visit formed part of the Legislature’s oversight role in monitoring service delivery projects and assessing progress on housing delivery in communities under Moretele Local Municipality.
