More than 300 people arrested in Hammanskraal ‘O kae Molao’

More than 300 suspects were arrested in Hammaskraal for crimes ranging from Contravention of the Disaster Management Act, car hijacking, attempted murder, robbery, dealing in liquor without a license, driving while under the influence of alcohol, and malicious damage to property.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela was joined by Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Ms Faith Mazibuko as he led Operation O Kae Molao in Hammanskraal and Temba.

All arrested suspects will appear before the Magistrates’ Court in Gauteng in due course.

Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo of SAPS said police in Gauteng continue to intensify weekend operations that are aimed at reducing the levels of crime and enforcing lockdown regulations. These operations have this weekend resulted in the arrest of more than 960 suspects, including 85 that were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Police are warning those who continue with the Contravention of Disaster Management Act, that the law will deal with them decisively. Police in Gauteng will continue to enforce the level one lockdown regulations while balancing it with crime combating.
