The Maremane family survived despite having a completely burned-out house
The Maremane family managed to survive after their house in Hammanskraal (Mmakau) was completely destroyed by electricity on 19 June 2022.
The family lost all of their possessions and numerous crucial items, including identity documents.
Mr Elvis Maremane, a family member said, It was a bad day for the family as they were left stranded.
“I have no idea how the fire started but I suspect that it is electricity-related as it just sparked without exploding.
“Even though we lost everything, the blessing is that the children aged 5, 3, and 18 months old survived as they were able to run out on time. We plead for the community to come forward to help as the family is left stranded without a home,” he said.
Mr Mike Mabaso, of the Justice and Peace Group at the Catholic Church said the situation is dire and his organization will help where it can. We have already cleaned up the debris, but this circumstance is difficult because the family lost everything including school books, we hope the school will understand the predicament and help the children with school needs.
“We also call on all of the community to come out to give a helping hand,” he said.
