A 19-year-old Zimbabwean, Mr Prince Mpofu, was sentenced by Moretele magistrate court to three months imprisonment or R2500 after being found guilty of being in the country illegally.
Sergeant Herman Moremi of Corporate Communication SAPS in Temba said Mr Mpofu appeared in court on 19 August 2022 where he was sentenced after being arrested at Stinkwater on 30 July 2022 at around 22:30 during a police High-Density Operation around the Temba area. He was unable to produce proper documents and was handed over to Home Affairs officials to verify his papers and was found to be in the country illegally.
The station Commander of Temba SAPS Brigadier Johannes Tau said this operation helps a lot where police can deal with different kinds of crimes at once and where many suspects can be traced and arrested.
“Community members complain about illegal immigrants in our country and police are doing by all means to address that in positive ways, and they will continue to remove all illegal immigrants in the area.”
He urged community members to continue working hand in hand with the police to fight crime.
