TSHWANE – The City of Tshwane will begin signing contracts with successful Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) applicants from March 17 to March 20, 2026, following two automated lottery draws held in February.

The contract signing marks the next phase in the City’s initiative to fill 1,500 EPWP positions through a randomised selection process.

The first lottery was conducted on February 13, 2026, selecting 1,154 applicants. The City attributed the initial shortfall to ongoing community outreach efforts in informal settlements.

Following roadshows completed on February 24, the City held a second automated lottery on February 27, 2026, at the Es’kia Mphahlele Library to allocate the remaining positions.

The municipality’s Information and Communication Technology Division administered the process, with oversight provided by Internal Audit, Human Capital Management officials, councillors, and other stakeholders.

The Expanded Public Works Programme is a government employment initiative that provides temporary work opportunities and skills development to unemployed residents.

The City has not yet announced the commencement date or duration of the contract for selected participants.
