South Africa received the Food Security Recognition Award that recognizes and celebrates the country’s achievement in the fight against hunger. The country received this remarkable accolade from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, during the World Forestry Congress which is taking place in Durban. President Jacob Zuma has warmly welcomed the Food Security Recognition Award for South Africa in respect of target 1.c of the Millennium Development Goal One, which aims to halve, between 1990 and 2015, the proportion of people who suffer from hunger. “We are all very proud of this remarkable achievement and I congratulate all the South African people as we have achieved this through working together to promote food security,’’ President Zuma said.
